Running the ALM blog has been a hoot and from the readership growth it looks like people are finding it of value(thank you!)

This posts represents a bit of an experiment of having our MVPs contributing content.  In this case the following steps were provided by one of our coffee loving MVPs, Anna Russo.  Anna typically presents at the major test conferences like StarEast…In case you are worried about her technical prowess at the last testing conference we were both at we made a small wager that lowest evaluation score would buy dinner…

I won’t tell you won and I believe we were both were in the top 10 speakers…but I am glad i was able to expense my meals for that trip!

Populate Test Suites using hierarchical queries in Microsoft Test Manager by Anna Russo

When you are querying for a test case to add to a test suite, it is sometimes easier to find your test case using hierarchical query types.

1. Select the query type you would like to use from the dropdown.   I am using Work Items and Direct Links because I know the title of the User Story my test cases are associated with.

2. Click on Run and your query results are returned.  The query returned the correct User Story, but where are the associated test cases I was looking for???  It states at the bottom I have 3 linked items…

3. Click on the expand icon(highlighted below) – glad I had that extra cup of coffee this morning to solve this mystery.

4. Select test case you would you like to add to the test suite and click on the Add test cases button.
