Microsoft brings Azure and the power of the cloud to student developers

In today’s mobile first, cloud first world, it’s critical that student developers have access to the latest tools, empowering them to create compelling web experiences. In support of student developers, today we’ve announced that we are offering students access to these tools, enabling them to take advantage of the power of the cloud with the launch of Microsoft Azure for student developers.

Student developers are growing up in a world that requires them to leverage cloud services to deliver cool and modern web experiences.  Microsoft Azure is a great fit for these students, because of its speed and flexibility enabling the creation and development of websites and web apps. This new offer for students, available today in 140 countries, gives young developers access to the latest technology, allowing them to develop in or deploy sites and apps to the cloud, at no cost and with no credit card required.

Our new Microsoft Azure offer for students offers a number of rich features that will make it easy to develop websites and web apps in the cloud. Azure App Service Web Apps enables students to build, deploy and scale web apps in seconds, whether they’re programming in ASP.NET, Java, PHP, Node.js or Python.

Another feature, called Application Insights, gives students a 360° view across availability, performance and usage of ASP.NET services and mobile applications for Windows Phone, iOS and Android.

Microsoft Azure is an open platform that supports many programming languages – and perhaps the quickest path to developing for Microsoft Azure is through Visual Studio Online. Visual Studio Online is the fastest and easiest way yet to plan, build and ship software across a variety of platforms. Students can get up and running in minutes on our cloud infrastructure without having to install or configure a single server.

The new Microsoft Azure offer is a significant step forward in enabling students everywhere, to explore and expand their development skills in the cloud.  It supports the mission we outlined with the launch of Microsoft Imagine: to connect student developers with the tools and knowledge needed to create, code and bring their ideas to life.  It’s not just about the creative spark, but about the ability to turn those ideas into something tangible, like a website or a web app.

I’m passionate about student developers – and student developer work doesn’t cease to amaze me.  I am convinced that Microsoft Azure for Student Developers will catalyze some amazing work from students across the globe.  I cannot wait to see what comes next.

Watch this short video clip from Scott Guthrie, Executive Vice President of Cloud + Enterprise, to learn more about the goodness students can start taking advantage of now.
