Someone asked me in a blog comment recently to post an update on internal adoption – the last one was almost a year ago. I’m going to keep it reasonably short.
The best summary is adoption continues to grow. TFS on-prem is growing slowly because it’s already huge. VS Online usage is growing more rapidly but is still far smaller than TFS on-prem.
Here’s the latest TFS on-prem summary from our IT team that runs the production TFS servers:
May 2015 | |
Unique users | 61,777 |
TPCs | 1,008 |
Projects | 19,918 |
Work items | 75,432,127 |
Source files | 411,609,386 |
Builds/month | 479,515 |
Test cases | 11,859,007 |
Here’s a month by month trend of VS Online adoption by major organization. The numbers look a little larger than they really are because adoption is still early and people are using only subsets of the functionality or using VS Online as a supplement to on-prem TFS. I don’t have counts of files, work items, etc for VS Online yet. We aren’t tracking it at that level yet, but we will.
