The Bing App for the iPhone is now available for Android phones. This new app brings together the information you need, connected to the apps you trust, to help you “find” and “do” faster and easier than ever before. The new Android app gives you the ability to get snapshots of information, available on-tap and in-context, while using other apps.
We’re also launching new features for both the iPhone and Android apps to help you shop faster and easier while saving money. The update includes a new barcode scanner that lets you compare product prices from online catalogs of major retailers. There’s also new integration with GasBuddy so you can find the cheapest gas in your area. Finally, the iPhone app is getting a dedicated deals experience letting you browse deals, offers and coupons by various categories. This feature is coming soon to our Android app.
The new Android app is available today, with the updates to the iPhone app coming in the weeks ahead.
Let’s look at these updates one-by-one.
Price comparison
You can now shop confidently knowing how much retailers charge for the product you’re interested in with the new price comparison feature. Launch the barcode scanner (by long-pressing the search icon and selecting the camera that pops out) and point your camera at the barcode of a product you want to look up. We’ll find if it in our database and return prices and customer ratings from major retailers, including Amazon, Walmart, Target, and others. We source our data from multiple retailers, so you can be truly certain in your purchase decision.
You can access the scanner on iPhone 6S/6S+, using the new 3D touch technology to force-touch the Bing app icon and select the “Scan Barcode” quick action. On older iPhones, users can go to the new “Deals” menu and tap the barcode scanner icon from there. On Android, long-press the search icon and select the camera that pops-out.
Gas prices
Finding nearby gas stations is already easy on Bing. Now, you’ll see fresh gas prices provided by GasBuddy for the closest fuel stops from Bing Local. Just search for “gas” or go to “Near Me” and select “Gas” bubble from the places-near-me carousel.
Deals
In addition to showing deals directly in search results (like when you search for a restaurant), we now make it easier to browse deals directly from the homepage of the Bing App for iPhone. This is a great companion when you’re shopping at a mall, or making dinner plans. We’ll automatically find the deals near you, and all you have to do is follow the instructions for how to redeem it from the deal/coupon provider.
Get the app from iTunes App Store or Google Play and let us know what you think @bing or on Bing Listens site.
